Lowering the Cost of Living

Michigan families are working harder than ever, but rising prices—from groceries and healthcare to housing—are making it harder to get ahead, even when people are doing everything right.

Jan believes that if you put in the work, you should be able to afford the basics and build a stable life in the community you call home. In Lansing, she’ll focus on practical solutions that lower everyday costs, expand access to affordable housing, and ease pressure on family budgets—so working families can plan for the future with confidence.

Investing in Public Schools

Jan believes our children should always come first — and that every child deserves a strong public school and a fair shot at success—no matter where they live.

As president of the East Jackson School Board, she has fought to strengthen public schools and stand up for teachers, knowing that when educators are supported and schools have what they need, students have a better chance to succeed. In Lansing, Jan will continue standing up for public education so our kids are prepared for the future.

Fighting for Good Paying Jobs

Jan believes in the dignity of work and an economy that rewards it. She’ll fight for good-paying jobs with strong benefits, stand up for union workers, support small businesses, and expand access to technical and job training so people can gain in-demand skills and build lasting careers close to home.

She’ll back investments that create good jobs people can raise a family on—because when working families do well, the entire community is stronger.

Increasing Access to Mental Health Care

Jan has seen firsthand what happens when families reach out for help and are met with long waitlists, high costs, or nowhere to turn. She believes mental health care is health care, and in Lansing she’ll work to expand access to counseling and crisis services, strengthen the mental health workforce, and ensure insurance coverage actually meets people’s needs. Because when individuals and families can get support early, communities are healthier, stronger, and better equipped to thrive.
