Meet Jan Maino

Jackson has been Jan’s home for over 50 years. It’s where she grew up, raised her family, and learned what it means to show up for your community — not just when it’s convenient, but when your neighbors need you the most.

As president of the East Jackson School Board and board member for over a decade, she has fought to strengthen our public schools, stand up for teachers, and make sure every student has a real chance to succeed—no matter where they live.

As a mental health therapist, Jan has seen first hand what happens when people reach out for help and the system fails them. That experience has shaped her belief that leadership means fixing what’s broken, expanding access to care, and making sure families aren’t left behind when they’re doing everything right.

Jan understands the dignity of work. Married to an IBEW electrician, together they believe in good-paying union jobs, paychecks and benefits that actually keep up with the cost of living.

For her entire career, Jan has served individuals and families in her community—both directly and through leadership, board service, and volunteer work. As a licensed social worker, nonprofit executive, and community volunteer, she has spent decades working alongside families, educators, healthcare providers, and service organizations to strengthen systems and expand opportunity. Whether providing direct support to families in crisis, leading behavioral health and family-serving nonprofits, or volunteering her time on local boards and initiatives, Jan’s work has always been rooted in showing up, listening, and helping people navigate real challenges with dignity and respect.

Jan is running to represent the 46th House District to bring the same community-first leadership to Lansing—because families here deserve leaders who show up, listen, and fight for them.
